WILDCARD CHARACTERS

 

With the help of truncation characters (wildcard characters) variations of a word can be included in the search. Question marks ? or asterisks * can be used as wildcard characters.

 

Question Mark: A single question mark replaces one character; two question marks replace two characters etc. Question marks can be used either in the middle of or at the end of a word.

 

Examples:

Organi?ation finds "Organisation" and "Organization"

Fabrik?? finds "Fabriken" and "Fabrikat"

 

 

Asterisk: An asterisk replaces any number of characters, including zero characters. It can be used in the middle of or at the end of a word.

 

Examples:

 

Ernährung* finds "Ernährung", "Ernährungsfrage", "Ernährungsministerium" etc.

Fabrik* finds "Fabrik", "Fabriken", "Fabrikat", "Fabrikation" etc.
