Names of author, translator, compiler, editor and other persons involved in a work.

Where works are published under a pseudonym, the pseudonym and author are included.

PND-Names

Author name and variations of the author name corresponding to the PND (Name Authority File) of the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (German National Library).

For each author name a reference to the person’s occupation, as given in the PND, has been added.

Title

Title of work, subtitle, volume title.

Author: Title

The index contains an entry for each person contributing to a work including name, function (where given in the bibliographic details) and title of the work or short title.

Chapter Headings

Chapter headings from the electronic table of contents of all volumes in the database.

Volume Number

Numbers of the individual volumes of multivolume works

Place of Publication

Place of publication as given in the original work.

Since spelling is not consistent, it is sometimes necessary to enter several forms of a name to find all works published in a certain place.

Example:
Place of publication: Dresden OR Dressden

Results: Works published in Dresden.

Publisher

Details of the publisher as given in the original work.

When searching for a particular publisher it is strongly recommended that users take advantage of the special search functions in the Index Lists for clarification, because variations in spelling and phrasing often occur in these entries.

Publication Year

Publication year of the volumes

In the field publication year, searches can be made with the relational operators:
<
         (less than)
<=
       (less than or equal to)
>
         (greater than)
>=
       (greater than or equal to)
and the range operator

:
(to)

Examples:
Publication year:
1779:1782
Results: Works published in 1779, 1780, 1781 or 1782.

Publication year:            <=1740

Results: Works published in the year 1740 or earlier.

Publication Type

Categorizing of collected works and periodicals, e.g. Anthologie (anthology), Literarische Wochenschrift (literary weekly), Theater-Journal (theatre journal).

Genre

Genre terms, such as Abenteuerroman (adventure novel), Lustspiel (comedy) or Philosophische Abhandlung (philosophical discourse). A work/volume can be listed under more than one genre term.

N.B.: The terms Wertherliteratur, Fragmentestreit -- Anti-Goeze and Versteckte Bibibliographie have been included in the index Genre, in order to make references to the thematic context of some works – Wertherliteratur, Fragmentestreit (Anti–Goeze) – as well as “hidden bibliographies” discovered in a series of works during compilation, accessible for searches.

PND-ID

Specific identification numbers from the Name Authority File (PND) of the Deutschen Nationalbibliothek for each of the authors included in the database. In the database, the PND ID is indicated in the Bio-bibliographic Articles.

Example:
PND-ID:
117421138

Results: All works by the author Albrecht Wittenberg.

Document ID

Specific identification numbers for each individual volume in the database.

Example:
Document ID:

Previous Searches

Search category for repeating searches or combining prior searches with other search queries.

Example:
Previous Search: ADV1

Results: The results of the first advanced search executed in the current search session.

Note: When combining previous search queries, a separate input field must be used for each search query.

For most search categories, search terms can be selected from the Index Lists offered and freely combined with each other.
