Structure of the DAtabase - Overview

The database 18th Century German Literature Online offers the user two different search screens:

The Basic Search, in which one can enter search terms in the search form’s single input field, searches jointly through the search fields Author, Title and Chapter Headings.

For the Advanced Search different search categories are available and can be combined freely. Some of the search categories are provided with index lists, which can be searched or leafed through, and from which selections can be transferred to the input fields. A Fuzzy Search function is included for full text searches through all works.

Each work is presented as a digital facsimile and can be leafed through like a book.

Bibliographic descriptions of works make it possible to specifically target individual authors, editors, titles or publishers.

By clicking chapter headings in the Electronic Tables of Contents provided, users can go directly to the beginnings of the chapters.

Bio-bibliographic articles about the authors can be called up.

The database includes a reading aid providing an overview of the different kinds of Fraktur or Gothic typefaces. Introductions to the database can be accessed using the link Introductions in the upper menu with the blue background.

To enable continued use of the documents found in the database, 18th Century German Literature Online offers different options, including the functions Print, E-mail and Download. It is possible to retain search results in the cache and re-access them with the functions Marked Documents, Previous Searches, and SaveURL.
