Search using Wildcard Characters

 With the help of truncation characters (wildcard characters) variations of a word can be included in a search. Question marks ? and asterisks * can be used as wildcard characters.

Note:                          Wildcard characters must never be used at the beginning of a search term.

                                  Wildcard characters cannot be used in Phrases.

Question Mark: A single question mark replaces one character; two question marks replace two characters etc. Question marks can be used in the middle of words and at the end of words.

Examples:

Title:                            Ka?serin

Results:                      Works with titles containing the words Kayserin or Kaiserin are found.

 

Chapter Headings:        Fre?maurer

Results:                      Works with chapter headings containing the words Freimaurer or Freymaurer are found.

 

Asterisk: An asterisk replaces any number of characters, including zero characters. It can be used in the middle of a word or at the end of a word.

Examples:

Title:                            Kaiser*

Results:                      Works with titles containing the words Kaiser, Kaiserin, Kaiserlich, Kaiserwahl, Kaiser-Carl-Bad are found.

 

Chapter headings:          Seelen*kunde

Results:                       Works with chapter headings containing words like Seelenheilkunde, Seelenkrankheitskunde, Seelennaturkunde, Seelenzeichenkunde are found.
