Check the index lists to ascertain whether the database contains a certain search term, or how a search term is written. Index lists are available for most of the search fields in the Advanced Search.
You
can browse the index lists, search for entries and go straight to the entries.
The index terms can be transferred to the search form very simply.
Calling
up Index Lists
To
the right of each input field equipped with an index list, you will find a link designated Index. Clicking
this link opens the index list belonging to this particular search category.
The
index entries are numbered consecutively. A navigation bar directly above the
index entries indicates which index entry you have opened. Using the arrows
pointing to the left and to the right, you can browse through the list. With the
Go function you can go directly to an
index entry. Enter the number of the required index entry in the navigation
bar’s input field and click the button Go.
Enter
a search term in the input field above the navigation bar and click Search.
All index entries containing the search term will be listed.
Please
Note:
The index entries contain no accents, umlauts or other special
characters. Instead of ä, ö, ü enter the alternative forms ae, oe,
ue, and use ss instead of ß. When
searching the index, do not use any asterisks or the hyphens and apostrophes,
which occasionally occur in the index. Using punctuation marks will not yield
any results.
If
you wish to combine several search terms, the operators AND,
OR and NOT can be used for
searches in the index lists. When no Boolean operators are entered, all search
terms are automatically combined with AND.
The wildcard characters, question mark and asterisk, can also be used when
searching indexes.
However,
it is not possible to enter several search terms and use wildcard characters
when searching in the index of the search category Publication Year.
Go
To specific Index Entries
With the Go To function, you can
go directly to specific points in the index.
Enter
the first word or first letter, or number of the desired index term. Click the
button Go To. The index page
beginning with the character(s) entered – according to the alphabetical or
numerical sorting – upon which the entry is found (or, if none was found, upon
which it would have been found) will be displayed.
Index
terms are selected by clicking the box to the left of the term. The search term
will be transferred to the list Selected Entries to
the right of the index list.
When
the selection of search terms in the index is complete, transfer the selected
term(s) to the search form by clicking Submit selections. To combine more
than one selected term in the search form the operator OR is used.
Individual
entries can be deleted from the list of selected entries by clicking the red
cross beside the entry. If several terms have been selected, all the selected
terms can be deleted by clicking Clear selections.
